Three precious points from Arsenal sloppy win

  • Arsenal narrowly beat Tottenham Hotspur 0-1.
  • Mikel Arteta’s side are strong in defence.
  • The Gunners have a long-term chance of winning the title.

It wasn’t a great performance for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta in the London derby match. Where they beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, but it was enough for the Gunners to collect 3 points and move up to second place, and remain unbeaten in their last 4 games.

In the game, Arsenal got the winning goal through Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes , but throughout the 90 minutes,   Arteta ‘s team had an average of just 36.3% possession and that dropped to just 32.2% after taking a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute.

Former Arsenal winger and now pundit Theo Walcott said: “It doesn’t really matter how they won, it was a great performance for Arsenal. They showed again that they can play tactically, they played almost like a Jose Mourinho team to get the results they wanted.”

Arsenal’s win was made all the more impressive by the fact they were without two key midfielders,

Norwegian captain and playmaker Martin Odegaard and England midfielder Declan Rice , who are both out through injury and suspension.

Jorginho made his first appearance of the season in place of Rice and partnered Thomas Partey in midfiel. While Leandro Trossard started in place of Odegaard. Arteta starting in a 4-3-3 formation before switching to a 4-4-2 when Spurs were in possession.

Walcott said: “In terms of the performance of the https://ufabet999.app team, the best comparison. I can think of is when Arsenal drew 0-0 with Manchester City last season. People wanted Arsenal to be more aggressive but they played with a system to get the results they wanted.”

“It’s exactly the same as the game, even though they have key players. Who can’t play, they’ve trained well and have a good structure that shows it doesn’t matter. Who plays because they’re all training the same way in defense.”

“It comes down to the work they do on the training pitch. I’ve lucky enough to watch them in pre-season and the amount of coaching staff involved in each session is incredible. It makes the players’ lives so much easier. When the team has that level of detail in training, with coaches who really support each player.”
